We get a lot of questions about auto insurance coverages. The most common are about windshield replacement or chip repair because we live in a rural community of rocks hitting windshields and wildlife on the roads. If you have a rock chip that can be repaired, we will waive the comprehensive deductible.
Here are the minimum coverage requirements for our state of North Dakota:
Liability - $25,000 per person / $50,000 per occurrence / $25,000 property damage
In my opinion, this minimum is not enough, considering the high costs of medical care, auto repairs and the injuries that may be sustained in an accident, causing loss of work (income) or legal ramifications that may take place as a result of an auto accident.
When you are deciding on which level of coverage to purchase, it’s a good idea to ask yourself, “What am I worth?” And “How much of my assets do I really want to protect?”
The most common add ons to auto insurance policies that we recommend purchasing are as follows:
- Towing coverage – this covers towing your car to the NEAREST repair shop, locking your keys in the car, jump start for your vehicle or any minor repairs that can be done where the vehicle sits
- Rental coverage – we will pay for a rental vehicle while your vehicle is being fixed
- Accidental Death and Dismemberment – if you are injured in an auto accident, loss of a limb or die, additional coverage can be purchased up to $10,000
