Community Activities

Since our family moved to Hillsboro, North Dakota in 1982 we have been very involved in the community.

I have always been interested in education, so have served 12 years on our local school board with 6 of those years as the President. I continue to stay involved with the school by announcing for the boys football and boys basketball games. I also officiate the local Junior Varsity and Junior High football games.

I was the first President and original member of the Medical Center Foundation, serving in that position for six years. I have also been involved with two major fundraisers for the medical center which included a new clinic, remodeling at the Hospital and building a new long term care and assisted living facility. In 1998 the Foundation started an annual fund raising Golf Tournament.  I was and continue to be the Chairman of that committee.

Being a Veteran, I am a life member of the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) and an annual pay member of the American Legion. I have served on our local Vets Board and since 2002 have been the Commander of the VFW.

Another organization that I continue to be very much involved with is the Hillsboro Kiwanis Club. I have served in all of the Officer and Director positions as well as being an original member of the Kiwanis Food Pantry Committee and continue to serve on that committee.

My wife Nancy and I are members of the Goose River Golf Club and I serve on the Board of Directors.

We also attend St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church where I have also served on the Church Council, I am a member of the Knights of Columbus and also volunteer in other capacities at our church.

I spent 10 years with our local ambulance service and continue to be a social member of the Hillsboro Fire Department.

I enjoy golfing and continue to participate on a highly competitive softball team.

Needless to say, I have always felt a need to give back to the community which has given me a great place to live, work and play, while providing my family and me with all the things that we need to have a comfortable life. Whenever I hear somebody say that there is never anything to do, I can only imagine that they must not be talking about Hillsboro.
