About the area:

I was born and raised in Southwest Minnesota on a farm and love the people and communities that are the soul and fabric of this rural way of life. This is one of the best places to live, raise a family, and call my home. The small towns that make up the area like Fulda, Westbrook, Windom, Dundee, and Slayton are the economic hubs for the people living on the farms and in the homes across the region. The businesses providing the commerce in the towns and cities are vital to the economic viability of the people. The people working together in the small towns and cities make rural America the best places in the nation.

About my family:

I live on a grain farm in Bloom Township in Nobles County, approximately 7.5 miles from the city of Fulda. I have been married to Marge (Meier) Winter 1973. We have four grown children: Jason the oldest son lives in Fergus Falls, Nathan the second son lives in Hutchinson and is married to Kelly, Shannon my daughter lives on a farm by Fulda and is married to Darin and they have three children, and last but not least is Brent who lives in Fargo, ND and is married to Sarah.

How I've become a leader in my community:

I have been a leader in the community for years as a State Representative in the Minnesota House of Representatives. I was elected in 1986 and served until 2002. I keep involved with the issues that effect people in this region through the elected officials at meetings and with personal contacts to their offices. I have been involved with the Minnesota QBE Farmers Union, Minnesota Corn Growers, Minnesota Soybean Growers, and the Land Stewardship organization in establishing public policy that helps our rural citizens achieve the best results from their government at all levels.

Organizations that I am active in:

I am involved in the Windom Chamber of Commerce Agriculture committee. The Agriculture committee organizes and sets up the Windom Farm and Home show that is held in the spring in Windom at the public high school. I am a member and past president of the Fulda Lions club. We do many activities in the area connected with the Fulda Wood Duck Days and the local youth organizations.
